If you are not able to hang flags on the day you signed up, you must find a replacement, and let Mrs. Shepherd know so she can change the master schedule. Most important though, is finding a replacement so that the flags still get displayed.
As a general rule, flags will be hung at 7:00 am and removed by dark. The exception is when the flags are scheduled to be displayed on back-to-back days or if it simply doesn’t work to do them at these times. You can hang them the evening before if you choose, and it’s okay to leave them up until the following day, but please get them down within the next day so there isn’t unnecessary wear and tear on the flags and flagpoles. Remember to treat the flags with respect and keep them clean. Do not let the flags touch the ground at any time, and carefully lay them in the truck bed rather than throwing or tossing them!
You will be responsible for finding someone to unlock the ag building for you to access the flags. You will either need to find someone to unlock the doors for you in the morning or evening, or arrange to pick up and return them during school hours. During the school year, the school is generally unlocked by 7:00 on school days. I have a list of teachers who have agreed to unlock the school for you on non-school and summer days if they are around. You will need to contact them BEFORE the actual day to ask if they can open the building for you. Please KINDLY ASK them if they would be willing to unlock the school, and also thank them for helping you out!
1) This is a leadership role, and you are expected to be responsible for your turn and to plan ahead as far as making necessary arrangements.
2) Call each other the night before as a reminder.
3) If possible, use a pickup with a toolbox.
4) If the flags are wet, they must be hung over the stage or bleachers in the gym to dry out. If the school is locked, you will need to contact someone with a key to unlock it.
5) If a flag or bracket needs repaired, please let Mrs. Shepherd know.
