Elementary Curriculum Sources
Kindergarten, 1st Grade, & 2nd Grade
The Healthy Alternatives for Little Ones (HALO) program will be taught in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade this year. HALO aims to help little ones be "bigger, stronger, and better able to think" through lessons about making healthy choices, both physically and mentally. In addition, lessons focusing on social skills will be taught. These often utilize books focusing on particular skills, followed by an activity or discussion. These will be implemented depending upon the individual needs of each class.
3rd, 4th, & 5th Grades
Steps to Respect: A Bullying Prevention Program will be taught in grades 3, 4, and 5 this year. Through this program, students will
*practice friendship-making skills
*learn to recognize bullying
*learn bullying-refusal skills
*learn how to reach out to someone who is being bullied
*develop bullying-reporting skills

In addition, lessons focusing on social skills and development will be taught as well. These usually involve a book focusing on a specific social topic, followed by an activity or discussion. Social skills lessons will be determined based upon the individual needs of each class.
