Jeff Bassett visited with EF students interested in the field of welding about his experience and career path as a welder.
Out of high school, Jeff was working in the Rock Springs, Wyoming oil fields where he saw pipeline welding in action as a career option. He eventually enrolled in the welding program at Southeast Community College in Milford and after graduating, became a pipeline welder. He traveled to some great places with work including Alaska where he saw grizzlies and fox near the worksite. He now works as a coordinator of construction operations with Tallgrass Energy, still utilizing his expertise in welding.
Jeff shared pros and cons of different welding career options, what may make some welding jobs higher paying than others, and what types of gigs may lend to family life versus young and single life.
Students checked out welding X-rays, viewed examples of pipeline layouts made using the AutoCAD program which is also used by welding engineers, gained insight into the importance of your work reputation and how it makes or breaks you in the welding industry, and heard how important networking is to keeping a steady flow of welding jobs lined up.
This real conversation with a real life welding professional was invaluable to our students. Thank you, Jeff, for taking time to invest in our students. We hope you will come back next year!

KNIGHTS UNITE RECAP:
Knights Unite: A Day of Service was held on Thursday, April 24. This event was formerly known as "Sod House Day" but in recent years has been revamped as a day of community service and is now titled as such.
Our 6-12th grade students spent the morning in various community service projects across both Eustis and Farnam, giving back to the communities that support them in their many activities.
We then had student volunteers and community volunteers band together to create a fun afternoon for our elementary students to learn about all the different ways that community members serve. A huge shout out goes out to our many volunteers and donors who made today possible.
Mrs. Rexing deserves an abundance of thanks as it takes an incredible amount of planning and organization to pull off a day like this and have it go smoothly.
We are so proud of the work that our students and staff put in to give back to their communities!

9th graders attended the South Central Career Fair in Holdrege today.
🏫They learned from Education Quest that pathways to careers can include apprenticeships, college diplomas, and certifications.
🧮UNL Extension helped them to make the connection between STEM and careers and career clusters.
🔬Reps from the Banisters Leadership Academy organization challenged students to have courage as they invented something new from an everyday item and create a sales pitch.
🕴️Finally, they visited several business booths to learn more about job opportunities in our area.

Tuesday, 7-11th graders spent the morning MAPS testing. Everyone either hit benchmark or their growth goal and was awarded a trip to the Fox Theatre in Cozad thanks to the EF Booster Club. Thanks for a great day, students, teachers, admin, Fox, and Booster for making it happen!
